Patch notes WARDOGS Season 2 too fast: will there be another wipe?

Bulkhead says Season 2 progression was the wrong call and Season 3 may come early. Here is what is confirmed, what is not, and how to play meanwhile.

Season 2 has only been live a few days and the developers are already talking about a reset. This guide covers what BULKHEAD has actually said, what is still undecided, and how to spend your time in the meantime. Things are moving quickly, so treat anything marked as "under review" as likely to change.

What has been said

On 17 October, BULKHEAD posted a statement admitting that it sped up progression deliberately, "but it was the wrong call." The studio added that some players are reaching end-game gear like tier-four armour and MBTs within days, so the wipe never really landed.

The main points so far:

  • No wipe this weekend. BULKHEAD said an immediate reset would punish players who are still enjoying the climb.
  • Season 3 may come early. The team is looking at significantly bringing forward Season 3 and some of its content. No new release date has been announced.
  • More detail is due next week. Season 3 and the proposed progression changes are expected to be covered in next week's dev vlog.

So "wiping again" is not confirmed. What is confirmed is that the studio is considering an earlier Season 3, which would presumably mean a fresh start. How a reset would treat your cash, XP and unlocks has not been explained.

Why progression got so fast

Season 2 changed the role tracks on purpose. The patch notes said levels 10 to 20 had been a slow grind, and many players stalled out before unlocking the gear that defines each role. Reported figures include:

  • Level 20 now needs 111,500 XP instead of the 250,000 it took in Season 1.
  • Level 25 went from 365,000 to 206,600 XP.
  • Level 35 went from 750,000 to 525,000 XP.

Two other things made it worse. First, Lonestar, the Blue team, had a cash and XP bonus, and experienced players joined Blue Team to maximise rewards. Second, a Driver XP exploit let people reach tanks within hours. It involved driving outside HQ, dropping off pallets and returning to base repeatedly.

BULKHEAD's 16 October backend update removed the Lonestar cash and XP bonus and deployed Driver progression fixes, including removal of the exploit. Players who abused the exploit are being temporarily banned, with cash and XP reset to 0.

There is a design argument underneath this. CEO Joe Brammer has said influencers who play all the time find progression too fast, while normal people like dads coming home from work struggle to reach higher unlocks. Both groups are right from where they sit, which is why this is hard to fix.

What this means for you

Don't rush to the top

If you are worried about wasting time, the sensible approach is to play for fun and unlock things as they come. Nothing has been announced that would make a quick grind more valuable than a relaxed one. If a reset arrives, the weapons you enjoy using will matter more than the ones you hurried to unlock.

Don't use the exploit

The Driver route is closed and accounts that used it heavily have been punished. Delivering crates and pallets properly still pays. The Season 2 notes added streak rewards for crates and pallets in a row, up to 10.

Keep an eye on your cash

Reports on how Season 1 ended say remaining cash is converted into Gold Bars that carry over, while XP and role progression are reset. That describes the first wipe. Whether Season 3 works the same way is unconfirmed, so avoid planning around it until the dev vlog.

Playing against end-game gear early

The practical effect of fast progression is that Level 4 Armor and main battle tanks turn up in matches much sooner than anyone expected. Here is how to cope.

Against heavy armour

Per the shop, Level 4 Armor needs Wardog level 100 and $200,000. The patch notes also made a small change: Level 3 and Level 4 armour now give 50% and 60% damage reduction, down from 55% and 65%. So armour is still strong, just slightly less so.

  • Carry Armor Piercing (AP) rounds. Per the shop they give increased damage to body armour and vehicles, but decreased damage to unarmoured body parts.
  • Don't leave AP loaded all the time. If the enemy isn't wearing armour, standard or Hollow Point (HP) rounds are the better choice.
  • Squad up and focus fire. One rifle against a well-armoured player is a losing fight, and several are not.

You can compare ammo and unlock levels in the loadout builder.

Against tanks

Support gear is the answer. Per the shop:

  • RPG-7: Support role level 6, then $30,000.
  • MAAWS: Support role level 18, then $100,000.
  • AT Mine: Support role level 25, then $75,000.

Watch the minimum arming distance. The 84mm shell for the MAAWS has a 25M minimum arming distance in the shop listing, and the 93mm RPG-7 rocket needs 16M. Firing at point-blank range will not do damage, so back off before you fire.

What may help soon

BULKHEAD has announced Limited Mode Servers. They are listed as "coming soon", with no power weapons or vehicles. The studio says they are currently planned for the mid-season update 2.5, and the idea is to cap weapons, equipment and vehicles at the lower ends of the progression tree. There is no confirmed release date, so don't expect them this week. Also, don't assume that any server with low-level players is a Limited Mode server. Check the server rules in the browser.

For now, squad nights are the easiest way to enjoy a lopsided lobby. A coordinated group with a Support player carrying anti-tank gear handles early heavy armour far better than a handful of solo players.

What to watch for

  1. Next week's dev vlog, which should give Season 3 timing.
  2. Any announcement on how a reset treats cash and unlocks.
  3. A date for Limited Mode Servers.

We will update this guide once there is something official to add.
